RESCUE STORIES

Butter Rum is a male, long-haired orange and white cat born around September 1, 2004. He was severely injured by a pack of stray dogs. Anita answered a telephone call from a neighbor and was able to reach him in time to rescue him. After surgical repair, antibiotics, and a stay in the veterinary hospital, he was able to convalesce and gain weight at Harmony Haven. He is now a beautiful, healthy, and friendly cat who likes to be petted. Butter Rum is especially proud of his gorgeous tail. Butter Rum is just waiting to be part of a family

CONTINUING SUPPORT

Bob Baesler of Baesler's Market named us the recipient of their Perks for Pets Fund Raiser. He presented us with a very generous check that will help meet many shelter needs. We are so grateful for his continuing support!

The PETCO FOUNDATION sponsored the "Spring a Pet" Fund Raiser to support community animal welfare organizations. Harmony Haven recently received a check from the proceeds of this event. We deeply appreciate PETCO's continuing support!

We always make sure that our animal residents are well fed. So you can imagine the amount of food that is consumed. We are particularly grateful for the pet food donations from individuals and from businesses. Baesler's Market and the Marshall, Illinois Wal-Mart have been very generous.

We continue our partnership with the Purina Very Best Pet Network through the Marshall Wal-Mart. They have recently introduced newly designed boards located in the Pet Department that display photos of our adoptable pets.

HAPPENINGS

We extend a big Thank You to the Junior Girl Scout Troop #147 at Lost Creek Elementary School and to their leader, Leah Myers. The girls donated $100 from their annual cookie sale. It is such a blessing to see young people who care so much for homeless animals!

This spring, Faye Kuckewich and Dianne Zwerner of Dixie Bee Elementary School and their students collected pet food, treats, toys, litter and cleaning supplies for our animals. They also delivered a generous check from the school.

Last year the Trinity Lutheran Thrivent Volunteer Group did a landscape project organized by Mark and Sherri Southwick. The perennials are now blooming beautifully and enhance the look of the building so much. Many Thanks!

Harmony Haven is one of the recipients of the Vigo County Public Library Summer Reading Project coordinated by Cindy Rider. This year, rather than hand out prizes, the library is giving the children and their parents a chance to help out a furry friend. Local and national organizations will be making donations to animal shelters in return for kids reading this summer. Our "Wish List" was distributed and a large box of supplies will be delivered soon. Anita presented a program to a group of the students at the library. She described Harmony Haven and its operation. The hit of the day was our B&W, a black and white feline charmer. She pranced out of the pet carrier, jumped on the table and visited all the students, accepting admiration and lots of petting. Some students were interested in volunteering.

WE ARE SO PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT
JULY 1 IS OUR FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF OPERATION.

Once again we wish to thank everyone who has ever contributed to the establishment and continued operation of the only no-kill shelter in the Wabash Valley. The presence of Harmony Haven has provided a great service to the community, saved many animal lives, prevented pet over-population, and adopted many cats and dogs to good, loving homes.

GIFTS, DONATIONS AND SERVICE

We are so grateful to the people who support us through volunteering, gifts, donations, and memorials.  However, because many people are sensitive about having their names on the internet, we have chosen to include names only in the mailed copies of our newsletters.

The kindness and generosity of all who give to Harmony Haven makes lives better for the animals in our care.

FUND RAISING

We are currently accepting donations of items for our yard sale planned for later this summer. No clothes please. Items can be dropped off at the shelter during our summer open hours - Wed. thru Fri. 2:00-5:00; Sat. 12:00-3:00.

We continue to collect aluminum cans, ink cartridges (except Epson) and cell phones to recycle for fund raising. Our wish list also includes dog and cat food, scoopable litter, paper towels, Pine-Sol, bleach, laundry detergent, Febreze, peroxide, alcohol, mineral oil, baking soda, litter deodorant, and empty blue plastic Lay's potato chip cans.

We are selling coupons through the generosity of Baesler's Market. A $10 coupon will purchase $10 worth of groceries or gas. (So your cost is zero.) The coupons come in $10 and $25 denominations. Call us - 535-3819.

Since we do not receive any tax dollars from the city or the county, donations (tax-deductible) are always most welcome!
